I Need Your Help: Sprachniveau

Klasse 10 (G9)

Ass.: Outline the events of "Judgment Night" in a summary. Explain the episode's title. (60 min.; Hilfsmittel zweispr. WB)

In the episode "Judgment Night" from the series "The Twilight Zone" by Rod Serlig from the year 1959, it's about the SS Queen of Glasgow on it's way over the Atlantic to New York in 1942 during the second world war.

Carl Lanser is a passenger aboard the ship, he seems to be very confused as he is brought to dinner with other passengers. They chat a bit and ask him where he is from When he replies that he is from Frankfurt, the other passengers seem a bit unnerved. when he is asked what his job is he gets a bit angry when he doesn't remember.

After a bit more chatting the Captain walks in and chats with them. Suddenly Carl spills his coffee and when someone was trying to clean it up he stood up and yelles at him. Afterward the captain jokes about Carl talking like a U-boat Captain. A bit later the captain of the ship talks to Carl and asks for his pass but the only thing Carl seems to remember is his name and birth Location. Carl is send to his cabin where a crew member finds a hat from the Kriegsmarine.

A while later he remembers how and when the ship will sink while they are slowing down to a stop. The Captain of the ship gets a feeling of being watched throuhg the thick fog.

Carl goes out to the back of the ship and notices a light from a U-boat, he panics and runs around the ship, when he realizes that seemingly nobody is on board anymore. He runs out and sees that the U-boat has surfaced and is aming at the ship. The U-boat openes fire multiple times on the ship and Carl is thrown in to the Water where he drowns. Shortly after it cuts to the captain of the U-boat and it turns out that it was Carl Lanser who is arguing with one of his crew members about sinking the SS Queen of Glasgow. The crew member mensions that Carl could die for 100s of times.

"Judgment Night" is a loop and sort of a hell for Carl Lanser, dying for 100s of times.
